Raul Gudiño Review
It is always tricky picking out young Goalkeepers for the future as there does not seem to be much in the way of first team opportunities in today’s game. I narrowed down my searches to three goalkeepers, which included, Zack Steffen the American who plays at Freiburg and David Paulmin the Canadian who plays for Montreal.
The Goal Keeper I decided to go for in my 11, is Raul Gudiño who currently plays for Porto B. Back in August 2014 he was signed by Porto on Loan from C.D Guadalajara and he went on to make his league debut for Porto B against Academico Viseu in the Segunda. The following year Porto would make the deal permanent for $1.5m. This season he has established himself as the reserve team keeper and his current form must surely have him close to the first team. At present he is also very fortunate to have Iker Casillas to be able to learn from, as he is one of the most experienced keepers in World Football. With Casillas already 34 and the other Porto Goalkeeper Helton 37, Gudiño is ideally placed to challenge for a first team place over the next couple of years.
At an international level things are also going well for Gudiño after he was awarded CONCACAF youth goalkeeper of the year following his good performances in the U-17 World Cup. So far he has managed one game for the U20s at the, which was at the World Cup during 2015 but I am sure he will be given allot more opportunities in the future.
At 195cm tall he is a big keeper who seems to be very quick at getting of his line and making himself big, reminiscent of Peter Schmeichel. Another huge quality of Gudiño is his amazing shot stop ability. His agility seems to be of a very high quality and some of the saves that I have seen have been incredible.
One thing that I was surprise about is just how popular the Gudiño is on social media. I have been reviewing allot of young players recently who have a few thousand follows but this guy has 43,000 which just shows how popular he is becoming.
I have reviewed allot footage of Gudiño and I can safely say this young keeper could go on to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
