Left Back - José Luis Gayà Peña
The left back position was slightly more complex to fill. This was because there were a few that could have been selected, including; Luke Shaw, Alex Grimaldo and Kennedy. But due to playing time and him being established member of his team, the Left Back position has to go to Jose Luis Gaya who is a first team player for Spanish Giants Valencia.
José Luis Gayà was born on the 25th May 1995 in Pedreguer (Alicante), which is a region of Valencia. Before moving to the Left back position, Gaya actually started his career with Valencia as a striker and scored an impressive 60 goals in one season at youth level. Gayà has so far only ever played for his boyhood club and has progressed through to the senior team.
As previously mentioned Gayà has so far only represented Valencia during his career. His only time away from the first team was spend at Valencia’s B team.
At the age of just 21 Gayà has played over 100 games between the Valencia Senior and B team. He is now considered a first team player for the Valencia and is really starting to attract some attention from other clubs. Gayà made his debut for Valencia at the age of 17 in the Copa Del Raye against UE Llagostera. Gayà has also had the opportunity to represent Valencia in Continental football, making his European debut at the young age of 18 against FB Kuban Krasnodar in a 1-1 draw.
Gayà is a similar position to his fellow Spaniard Bellerin, although he has not yet managed to represent Spain at Senior level, this is due Spain already having a wealth of choices in the left back position. He has however represented Spain consistently through each of the youth levels and surely his call up will happen in time.
Gayà is another player built in the new style of full back, who is capable of covering allot of ground both defensively and offensively. Gayà has great pace and energy, which enables him to get forward often and that also helps with his defensive duties. Like most Spanish players Gayà is capable of putting in a good final ball and he also has a good eye for a pass. With his time spent as a striker Gayà is also not afraid to take a shot at goal.
Overall there are not many weaknesses to his game, although if we were to call out one it would have to be his ability in the air. At just 5ft 7 this was always going to be a tough part of his game that he will struggle change.
What does the future hold for Gayà?
Well there is allot of interest in Gayà at the moment and it is easy to see why. There is a strong possibility that he will move in this window and if not the summer and a good offer should be enough to temp Valencia to sell. So far we have seen reports linking Gayà with Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester City. As for Gayà himself he just has to keep what he is doing and eventually that Spain cap will come and he could well go on to being one of the best left backs in the game.
